11 MAY 2017 - Warren L. Bingham is an acclaimed speaker and writer with a commanding grasp of Southern history, culture, and lore. Bingham has long focused on George Washington's "Southern Tour" - the president’s 1791 visit to Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia. His research and presentations have culminated in a book, George Washington’s 1791 Southern Tour, released in 2016 by The History Press. In the fall 2016, Bingham and his book were featured on UNC-TV’s North Carolina Bookwatch—and he lectured to a full house at Mount Vernon. Download the reservation form here.
14 SEPTEMBER 2017 - We welcome Attakullakulla, Peace Chief of the Cherokee Nation from about 1754 until his death (ca.1780-1783). He was called the "most important Indian of his day." He was trained to become a leader among the Cherokee people. Attakullakulla is portrayed magnificently by Captain Robert K. Rambo (USA, Ret.), who earned his BA (History) from the Virginia Military Institute, his teacher certification (History) at UVAWise, and his M.A. (US History Cherokee Studies Program) at Western Carolina University. His research centered on Attakullakulla during the 18th century. RSVP soon.
16 NOVEMBER 2017 - We welcome back to our chapter for the 4th year in a row, historical author and storyteller Randell Jones! You'll delight in hearing Randell's new story of "Saving Col. Williams," which revolves around the SC Militia and the Lincoln County Militia at the Battle of Kings Mountain. Randell's telling of the story attempts to rectify the differing accounts of the role and motivations of Colonel James Williams with his known character, that of a true and courageous patriot. Col. James Williams arrived at The Cowpens in command of the South Carolina militiamen and the men he had recruited in North Carolina. Williams was a valiant patriot. He had a long career of service during the Revolution and was one of the three commanders at the Battle of Musgrove’s Mill. RSVP soon.
